I enjoy crocheting and I have made this page for those who like to crochet also.
Would you like to know how to crochet a hot pad? Well, I have decided to put instructions for a crocheted hot pad on here so that you can make one (or two, or three...
) if you want. The hot pad at left is one that I made. In fact, it is the first that I have made for my hopechest.
The instructions below are probably more for people who already know how to crochet, so it might be a little harder to understand if you've never crocheted before.
I've never written out a "pattern" like this before, so I hope you can understand it!
Chain stitch 40. This chain will be the length from one corner to another corner.
Crochet around the chain with single crochet stitches. Eventually, the two ends will start to fold in toward each other (this will happen once you've been around several times). When the two ends meet in the center, then join the two ends with a blunted needle by sewing it up (which will close up the hot pad). You can also single crochet it closed, but that would leave a bump, instead of it being flat. Finish it off by cutting the yarn and knotting it.
→ Optional: You can also make a loop on one corner, but you don't have to.
You can also make a trivet by crocheting two granny squares, back to back. Size I crochet hook is good and 7 rounds makes a trivet that's about 8x8 inches.
I hope that these instructions have been clear enough to follow! If you had trouble following it, or do not know how to do the stitches, just do a search on the web and I'm sure you'll find something!
